The Real Story has the opportunity this week to speak to Stan Humphries, Chief Economist at Zillow.com, the Seattle-based real estate database website for buyers, sellers, and now, for renters.
Stan took part in last year’s KCBS real estate forum, “From Lemons to Lemonade”, and is one of The Real Story’s most-requested resources for updates on the 2010 market. True to form, he was ready for The Real Story with both statistics and insights for what he calls “a mixed year” ahead.
Today, Stan takes on whether a definitive bottom has been reached in the market, and although 2009 saw positive price stabilization in some metropolitan areas, he thinks that there will be some declining values yet to be posted before a definitive bottom.
Then what? Modest gains in home values for up to three years—not those astonishing, double digit jumps that so many people got used to banking on—quite literally—during the run up in the early part of the decade.
