Taking a look at products that save energy

Energy saving products on The Real Story with Colleen Edwards

The Real Story talked with Ed Lindner from Whirlpool last week at the Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) and learned that Whirlpool is the parent company for Jenn Air, Maytag, Amana and Kitchen Aid, to drop just a few well-known appliance names.

Ed told us that Whirlpool has developed a new suite of appliances, called the Resource Saver Kitchen, that helps save energy and water. Not only do the appliances use less energy, they even have a power-save feature that effectively puts the appliances to sleep, and keeps them from using energy when they’re not active.

He also did a little crystal ball gazing, and told us to be on the lookout for more appliances to apply grid technology in the future, so that you can set your dryer to run when energy use in the grid is at its lowest—and cheapest—period during the day.

Later this week:  insulating your home with blue jeans.  Would I kid you?
